1. Is abbreviated as AUI. The cable and connector defined by the IEEE 802.3 ethernet standard used to connect a thick ethernet (10Base5) card with the transceiver.
Also called a thicknet connector, piercing tap and vampire tap.

This device clamps onto the cable, forcing a spike through a hole drilled through the outer shielding to contact the inner conductor while other spikes bite into the outer conductor.
